Russia responded this Monday morning to the United Nations Organization (UN) that at this time it is impossible to resume the grain agreement, which allowed the export of Ukrainian cereals through the Black Sea, because the commitments are not fulfilled, much less Moscow has been benefited.
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, stated that, unfortunately, at this time it is impossible to resume that agreement, because it is not being fulfilled. “President Putin has clearly said that Russia is ready to immediately resume the agreement as soon as it is fulfilled,” Peskov stressed.
The Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN), António Guterres, asked Russia to resume the initiative of the Black Sea agreements, which allowed the export of Ukrainian cereals, essential to guarantee stability in supply and prices.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised that he will continue to supply grain to African countries despite the sanctions on Moscow, due to the invasion it has maintained against Ukraine since February 2022. The Kremlin’s decision not to renew the Black Sea Agreement was taken because the Kremlin considers that “they were never fair to them.”
The Kremlin leader defended the decision not to prolong the grain agreement, which allowed the export of grain from Ukrainian ports across the Black Sea, because it was used “only to enrich the big American and European companies that exported and resold grain from Ukraine.”
This week, the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN), António Guterres, asked Russia to resume the initiative of the Black Sea agreements, which allowed the export of Ukrainian cereals, essential to guarantee stability in supply and prices.
António Guterres reiterated, during the inauguration in Rome of the United Nations Summit on Food Systems +2, that efforts be made to resume the agreement. “I call on the Russian Federation to resume the implementation of the Black Sea agreements and urge the international community to remain united in this effort to find effective solutions,” Guterres said.
According to the United Nations Organization (UN) the total exports by this treaty only reached 29.8 million tons. Of this is added 595,000 tons for the World Food Program in humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and Yemen.’
