The Taiwan Ministry of Defense announced on Monday the cancellation of some military exercises scheduled for tomorrow in the framework of the annual Han Kuang maneuvers, amid new tensions in Asia between Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China, Russia and the United States, due to the threat of typhoon Doksuri.

Taiwan had planned new military exercises that will last for five days to strengthen its defense capacity in the face of possible aggression from China or other factors, which have increased pressure on the island; more from the closeness of the United States to the Taiwanese.

The exercises will take place for the 39th time from July 24 to 28, and will include maneuvers by land, naval and air forces in different scenarios. The Taiwan Ministry of Defense recalled that the Han Kuang maneuvers, the name of these exercises, are held annually, although they have become more important since the recent declarations by China and the United States on the sovereignty of the island.

Now, due to the arrival of difficult weather conditions, the exercises suspended are the deployment of combat aircraft at the Fengnian civilian airport, in the eastern county of Taitung, which could be used as an alternative simulated base in case of enemy attack.

In addition to increasing the effectiveness of the defense of the national territory and reinforcing logistical support measures. In the annual exercises, the response to an air attack is also scheduled, called Wanan, which starts this Monday and will last until Wednesday.

Last week, the Chinese and Russian Naval and Air Forces announced the Russian-Chinese Naval Exercises North/Interaction-2023. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that four Russian Navy ships have left Vladivostok to participate in joint naval exercises with China that will take place in the Sea of Japan in the coming days.

“In accordance with the program of international cooperation, from July 20 to 23 in the waters of the Sea of Japan, the joint Russian-Chinese naval exercises ‘North/Interaction-2023’ will take place,” a Russian statement said.
