The Mexican Army together with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) charred about 461 kilos of narcotics seized in Nuevo León, on the border with the United States, which faced a wave of violence from drug trafficking this week.
The incineration occurred at the Seventh Military Zone facilities and was led by Gonzalo Sánchez Betanzos, FGR delegate in the state, Commander José Luis Chiñas Silva, and the Secretary of Security of Nuevo León, Gerardo Palacios Pámanes.
“As we watch how these drugs are destroyed, let us remember that every gram that is burned is a life that will not be ruined by addiction, each gram represents a step towards the drug-free future of our communities,” said Sánchez Betanzos in his speech. .
He added that the joint effort and patriotism of the justice administration and public security institutions of the three organizations allowed the destruction of the drugs.
Among the narcotics are 934 pounds (424 kilos) of marijuana, 44 pounds (20 kilos) of methamphetamines, 5.7 pounds (2.6 kilos) of methamphetamine hydrochloride, just over 5.2 pounds (2.4 kilos) of cocaine hydrochloride, 0.5 ounces (17 grams) of hashish, 23 ounces (664 grams) of cannabis sativa preparations, 6.1 ounces (175 grams) of psychotropics, among others.
“Let us continue working together to build a world where our children and future generations can grow up in an environment of peace,” the federal official requested to the authorities present.
Likewise, he thanked the National Guard, the State Security Secretariat and the Army for their support in the fight against drug trafficking.
“Without your support, of course, none of this would be possible,” he said.
The event occurred after the bloody week perpetrated by organized crime in Nuevo León, where criminals left 12 dismembered bodies on the streets of the metropolitan area of Monterrey last Tuesday.
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, acknowledged that there is “a confrontation of criminal groups” in the state, bordering Texas, United States.
Nuevo León ranks tenth in absolute homicides in the country, registering 842 in the first eight months of 2023, when Mexico as a whole reported more than 20,000.
