The incorrect posting of winning Powerball numbers on the Iowa Lottery website was due to “human error.”
The entity reported that the problems reported with the data of the winning numbers from Monday’s drawing have already been fixed.
“It takes time to correct that kind of error in the state gaming system, which links all lottery terminals and self-service kiosks in the state. Lottery staff were able to complete the process by Tuesday afternoon,” the office said in the news section of its website.
“The Iowa Lottery sincerely apologizes for the interruption,” the statement added.
“Human error,” alleges Iowa Lottery
As part of the lottery processes, two different people in two different locations enter the results of the drawings before they are officially integrated into the state gaming system. But, when the winning numbers of the draw were being entered, some of the numbers were mistakenly added incorrectly.
The incorrect results were posted around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and remained available until approximately 7:15 a.m. that day.
The correct numbers that were winners in Monday’s toss were: 2, 21.38, 61.66, and the Powerball, 12.
While the team fixed the error, players were not allowed to verify or collect tickets.
If you received a message that read, for example, “the draw has not occurred,” you can check again.
The lottery could not specify how many people with the wrong numbers collected prizes that were not theirs.
When the correct numbers were posted, 3,998 tickets with prizes ranging from $4 to $200 won a total of $24,382.
