Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a warning to NATO involving the possible use of nuclear weapons after the alliance expressed support for Ukraine over Ukraine’s escalating conflict with the Kremlin.
According to the Russian leader in his annual speech, the deployment of allied troops in Ukraine would have “tragic” consequences for potential interventionists, and he recalled the history of invasions of Russia. Likewise, he assured that Russia has weapons capable of hitting targets in the territories of Western powers.
“Everything they come up with now, with which they scare the whole world, all this threatens a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons and, therefore, the destruction of civilization,” he said.
Likewise, the Russian president accused the West of provoking conflicts in different regions of the world, such as Ukraine and the Middle East, and of forgetting what war is. He described accusations that Russia is considering attacking Europe as “nonsense,” and emphasized that these are shameless lies.
Putin also pointed out that the West is trying to drag Russia into an arms race, as happened with the Soviet Union, which dedicated 13% of its gross domestic product to defense. But he indicated that this “trick” will not work, since Russia will only allocate 6% to defense in 2024.
Likewise, the president defended the development of the military-technical complex as a way to strengthen the industrial, technological and scientific potential of the country. Likewise, he rejected US accusations that Russia is preparing to deploy nuclear weapons in space, and affirmed that Russian strategic nuclear forces are in full combat readiness.
Putin concluded that a strong world order will not be possible without a “sovereign and strong” Russia, and called for international cooperation to address global challenges.
