The Italian racket Jannik Sinner became the champion of the Miami Open in its 2024 edition this Sunday by beating Grigor Dimitrov in the final, beating him in two sets of 6-3 and 6-1, with which he not only won the first trophy of this event in his career but was also able to displace the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz from second place in the ATP ranking.
Sinner managed to beat Dimitrov in a true monologue that lasted just 73 minutes, with almost general control of the match except for the lead that the Bulgarian had taken during the first set when he took a 2-1 lead.
However, Sinner was forced to come back and from then on it was a gale that was impossible to control and that justified what he had seen throughout the Miami Open.
In fact, Sinner only lost one set in six matches of the tournament and became the first Italian to win it, being his second Masters 1000 after Toronto 2023.
Additionally, he also became the first Italian to rise to second place in the ATP ranking, where he will be positioned from this Monday, April 1, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz and placing himself behind Novak Djokovic.
Sinner’s great personal moment is not only limited to the Miami Open but there have been several months of success for the young promise, because in 2023 he helped Italy win the Davis Cup, in a competition that La Bota had not won for a long time. almost 50 years, in 1976.
Since then, come 2024, Sinner’s record is 22-1, only being defeated by Alcaraz himself during the Indian Wells semifinals.
Since then, he has achieved victory in 25 of the last 26 duels and in 41 of 44 since the last US Open, held in 2023, of which the most valuable victory was when he achieved his first Grand Slam at the beginning of 2024 (Australian Open ), beating him in the heart-stopping final and with a comeback including Daniil Medvedev by 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3.
