An unfortunate comment would have been the reason why the Nicolás Maduro regime detained YouTuber Oscar Alejandro this Sunday at the Simón Bolívar International Airport. The arrest became known after the family indicated that the content creator is in the Antiterrorism Division of the headquarters of the Scientific Investigation Corps of Venezuela, in the center of Caracas.

Seven months ago, the Venezuelan YouTuber published a video on his YouTube channel, where he has almost 2 million subscribers, in which he can be seen traveling through areas of the dangerous city. In the suburb of Chacaíto, the 37-year-old journalist pointed to a nearby tower and explained:

“That illuminated building behind us is the Credicard tower which, as a curious fact, is where the servers for all the credit and debit cards in Venezuela are located. “If they threw a bomb at that building, the entire national banking system would collapse.”

However, the reason for Oscar Alejandro’s arrest is still unclear because the Venezuelan authorities have not issued any statement. In the statement from his family, it was explained that the YouTuber’s arrest occurred at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, near Caracas, when he was preparing to travel to the paradisiacal Canaima National Park.

Oscar Alejandro, “activities related to terrorism”

“The detention is linked to accusations of activities related to terrorism,” indicated those close to him, who reported that the judicial process, which will begin with a hearing scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2024 in the 2nd Control Court of the Metropolitan Area.

“Recognized for his work in promoting Venezuelan culture, he now faces this legal process. The family expresses its hope that the judicial process will clarify the details of the situation and ensure fair treatment in accordance with Oscar Alejandro’s legal rights,” they added.

This event also occurred after the YouTuber shared a series of publications from his trip to Nicaragua, in which he criticized the political system and showed what life is like under the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosa Murillo, faithful allies of Nicolás Maduro.

Nicaraguan media reported that the young Venezuelan highlighted in his content, which completely disappeared from the video platform for unclear reasons, he spoke of the exaltation of the figure of Hugo Chávez, the flag of the ruling party Sandinista National Liberation Front, the extreme deployment of police forces loyal to the regime and absence of freedom of expression.

Why does Oscar Alejandro avoid talking about the humanitarian emergency in Venezuela?

Oscar Alejandro recently spoke about the risks that exist in Venezuela and the reasons why he prefers to avoid topics of humanitarian emergency and political crisis in the country in his videos. In a participation in the podcast 99%highlighted that content creators who claim that “things are better and beautiful” in the country do so because it is the only thing they can show.

“It is the only thing that can be said and shown because showing the other side is exposing oneself to the worst face of the people who are governing in our country. So do you go to the hospitals, to the prisons, to the police? “You have a family and remember that you need to leave the country calmly and for everything to be at peace with you,” said the young man.

And he added: “Do you want to risk showing the true face that is supposed to be shown? Let us remember how several journalists are imprisoned. So, what is left for us as content creators is to show what is possible, which are the beautiful things. What must be said is that we have a beautiful country. We have to stick to the only thing that can be shown because, if not, face the consequences.”

Oscar Alejandro assured that he would not dare to do a report on the humanitarian emergency in Venezuela: “There is my family, and there is my safety and my peace of mind. So, on some occasion it was pointed out to me, (but) let’s be serious: why don’t you do it? If hospitals are supposed to portray Venezuela, you do it yourself. You also have a cell phone just like me. And you can create a free YouTube channel. If you are going to criticize that ‘Venezuela was fixed’ because of the content creators and if you have a better idea, do it yourself.”
