In March 2022, Mexican coach Javier “El Vasco” Aguirre was appointed coach of Mallorca in a complicated situation for the club. In a short time, the strategist managed to save the team from relegation and kept it competing in the first division for the next two seasons.

Even this year Aguirre got Mallorca into a Copa del Rey final almost 20 years later. The strategist’s contract with the island entity ends at the end of the season and at the moment he has nothing assured for his continuity.

Mallorca could still be relegated this year with six games left to finish the season. And although he has a solid cushion of six points with respect to the relegation zone, the board has not yet assured the coach’s continuity.

That is why Aguirre seems to be beginning to explore other alternatives and these would be outside the benches. Well, according to the information revealed by the coach’s own son, Mikel Aguirre, given to TUDN, the “Vasco” could be thinking about taking a position as a director of the Mexican Football Federation at the end of his contract with Mallorca.

According to Mikel Aguirre, his father would have three alternatives in mind for after June. The first will always be continuity at Mallorca, which does not depend on him, but on the club’s board of directors to offer him a new contract.

The second is the possibility of returning to Mexico, but working directly at the FMF under the guidance of Juan Carlos Rodríguez, recently appointed president of the organization and with a great relationship with Aguirre.

And the third would be to coach another club, but in some football that is a little more “exotic” like the Asian continent. Where he already has experience directing the Japan team and in Arab football.

For now, Aguirre would be focused on finishing the remaining six rounds of the Spanish championship and trying to keep Mallorca in Spain’s first division. Once the objective was met, he would evaluate the options he may have on the table.
