This weekend the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies will play a two-game series in Mexico City. As part of the global expansion program that the MLB has been carrying out for several years.

In the case of the Astros, this Mexico City Series, as it has been named, has a special flavor because on the roster of the Texan team there are several Latinos who will surely feel at home being in the Aztec capital.

One of them is the franchise player and face of the Astros, Venezuelan José Altuve, who has expressed his excitement about visiting Mexican lands and playing in the Astros uniform outside the United States.

“They love baseball as much as the fans in the United States. We have a free day there and you can go and try authentic Mexican food. I just love it. I love exploring and learning about different things. I’ve been to Mexico, I’ve played there with the Astros, but I’ve also been on vacation and it’s an incredible country with incredible people. “I’m really excited,” Altuve commented for MLB.com.

The MLB has been doing series of this type in Mexico for six consecutive seasons. Which demonstrates the success of each of them, in addition the Aztec country has shown growth in recent years with figures in the Major Leagues such as Julio Urías, José Urquidy and Isaac Paredes.

Furthermore, in the last World Baseball Classic in 2023, Mexico greatly surprised by taking third place in the tournament and eliminating Puerto Rico, which was one of the favorite teams.

“I feel like baseball has grown a lot in Mexico in the last four or five years. Let’s hope it continues to grow and why couldn’t we have an MLB team in Mexico one day? “I would love to,” analyzed the Astros second baseman.

The series will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City. For the Astros it will be the second series outside the United States after 2019 against the Angels in Monterrey. Although in 2016 they played an exhibition game against the Padres in Mexico City.
