The Temple Fire and Rescue Department in Texas reported an accident that left two people dead after a load of material weighing approximately 350,000 pounds fell on their car. City authorities are investigating the case that occurred on State Highway 36.
Various security agencies in Temple responded to a collision west of Highway 317, on State Highway 36. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found that construction material, such as a 350,000-pound pipe, was being transported by a fleet of cargo trailers, fell from the trailer, crushing a vehicle.
Three people were traveling in the car
“Temple Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision on State Highway 36, just west of Highway 317. Upon arrival, crews found that a massive load had come off their trailer, immobilizing a vehicle. below,” authorities said in a statement.
Three people were traveling in the car, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The third person was transported by air ambulance to a hospital emergency room with serious injuries.
It took hours to remove the victim who survived
Officials said in the statement that it took firefighters about four hours to be able to remove the injured person from the vehicle that was under the giant tube, which they said “they did not know exactly what it will serve.”
“It is not known what that piece of equipment is,” the firefighters noted and continued, “there were 3 occupants in the trapped vehicle. “2 passengers suffered fatal injuries, the third was taken to the emergency room with serious injuries.”
The identity of the deceased and the surviving victim was not released. After the accident they closed the road to avoid another problem. For several hours they had to clear debris from the road and lift the piece.
The accident is under investigation
Likewise, they shared that several security agencies were supporting the rescue and recovery efforts of the bodies.
“Temple Fire and Rescue responded with 10 units and 25 people. Also on scene assisting with rescue efforts were the Georgetown Fire Department Special Operations Team,”
Several agencies were present and said they are investigating the cause of the collision.
