For the Minnesota Timberwolves, everything is happiness after overcoming the first round of the NBA playoffs by sweeping the Phoenix Suns to advance to the Western Conference semifinals with a resounding 4-0 victory.
The only negative note of the day occurred when Wolves point guard Mike Conley was driving with the ball in his hands on the left side of the field when he received an infraction from Devin Booker.
After leaving the playing field, Minnesota’s number 10 could not avoid colliding with his coach, who was crouching watching the actions.
Coach Chris Finch tried to stop his team’s starting point guard, but he couldn’t and ended up on the ground with clear signs of pain, holding one of his knees.
After lying down for several minutes, surrounded by the rest of the technical staff and the players, the coach finally had to leave the field accompanied by two collaborators, who took him to the locker room so that the medical team could see what his situation was.
Once the game ended, which had assistant Micah Nori leading the team in the less than two minutes remaining, it was confirmed that Finch would have a serious injury: according to NBA journalist Shams Charania, the Minnesota coach reportedly suffered a torn patellar tendon. While waiting for the official medical report, he may have to have surgery to repair the area.
“He’s obviously in a good mood and so are the boys,” said Nori, one of the assistants who took charge of the team at the end of the victory against the Suns. Conley said he didn’t see Finch until the last moment and tried to hold him after the collision. “I told him to sit down, that he shouldn’t be standing like that at the end of the game. Let us pray for him, I am sure he will be fine,” added the experienced point guard.
Beyond this incredible situation that occurred, Minnesota won the game and the series. This is the first time in 20 years that the Timberwolves have advanced to a round in the postseason and they did so thanks to a solid performance from their figures.
