Mexican fighter Saúl Canelo Álvarez had a convincing victory against his compatriot Jaime Munguía, whom he defeated by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.
After the victory, Canelo decided to praise his rival, and once again stated that he is the best in the world.
“It means a lot, he is a great man, a great champion and he will continue to do things well. I feel proud to represent Mexico. Long live Mexico Bastards! I take my time. I have a lot of experience. I take my time and I have 12 rounds to knock him out,” Canelo said.
And he said: “That’s why I’m the best. I don’t consider myself the best of all time. When I retire my numbers will speak for themselves. Respect for Mexican fighters of the past and present. But I’m the best fighter right now.”
Will Canelo Álvarez fight David Benavidez?
Canelo also opened the door for a possible fight against David Benavidez. Given all the criticism received, the boxer assured that if the money is right he will accept the fight against the Mexican-American.
“If the money is right, I can fight right now, I don’t give a damn… Everyone asks for everything, everyone says I don’t want to fight, but right now I can ask for whatever I want, I can do whatever I want. And if they like it, good and if they don’t, too,” Canelo said.
There are several names being talked about to face Saúl in the month of September, but at the moment there is no one official. Given this situation, Canelo himself made fun a little that many want to get into the ring with him, but in the end he will demand to be the best in the world.
“Everyone is very much in love with me… The truth is I’m going to sit down and enjoy this fight and then we’ll see. I have faced everyone who says no, everyone wants a lot of things, but right now I also want a lot of things, I am in a position where I can demand.”
