A person died after traveling at high speed and hitting a door on the outer perimeter of the White House complex in Washington, DC, an event that occurred on Saturday night.

Through a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), they said they responded to the fatal incident at approximately 10:45 p.m. The identity of the deceased has not been released by the authorities at this time.

“At this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic accident by the MPD Major Accident Investigation Unit,” district police said in a statement.

For his part, Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service, issued a statement after midnight Sunday in which he provided details of the agency’s response to the accident.

“Safety protocols were implemented when officers removed the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered dead,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, a Secret Service spokesperson assured WTOP that there is no threat to the White House and that there are limited traffic closures in the area while teams investigate.

While the Secret Service is investigating the events, the Washington Metropolitan Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit will handle the fatal portion of the accident.
