iran-announced-sanction-to-the-cia-and-the-us-national-guard-after-riots-over-the-death-of-mahsa-amini

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday sanctions against individuals and entities from the United States, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), for inciting “violence and unrest” in Iran, in the midst of a wave of protests after the death of the young Mahsa Amini.

The sanctions apply to “ten people and four entities for having carried out activities against human rights, having interfered in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, having incited violence and disturbances in Iran and inciting terrorist acts”, according to the Iranian Ministry.

These measures are directed, among others, against the head of the central command of the Army (CENTCOM), Michael Corella, the CIA and the US National Guard. They involve the prohibition of granting travel and entry visas to Iran and the “freezing of their properties and assets” in this country, the source reported.

Washington announced on October 26 economic sanctions against Iranian officials and companies for their violent crackdown on recent protests .

Iran has been shaken by massive demonstrations since the death on 16 September of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish woman from 22 years who died three days after his arrest by the morality police, for allegedly violating the dress code of the Islamic Republic.

Dozens of people -in mostly demonstrators, but also members of the security forces – have died during the protests.
