El Hierro himself explained the reasons for the appointment of Paunovic, pointing out that they were looking for someone with experience in youth, who knew Mexican soccer and who has a resume with a past in Europe.

These are the characteristics that the person we are looking for must have and we already have in mind,” commented Hierro.

At club level, Paunovic debuted in 2015 when directing to 2019 to the American Chicago Fire and in 2020 he commanded the English Reading, from which he left last February.
