Uber Eats is one of the most popular food delivery service apps in the United States and the most expensive in the country, according to research by Self.

To find out how the price changes of food delivery when using different apps and how much more expensive it is to use these platforms than to get the food yourself, Self ordered from McDonald’s in the most
metropolitan areas country’s largest on DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub.

Research found that Uber Eats is the most expensive food delivery app in the United States at a cost of $48.12 for the order , a 49.3% more than buying directly at the restaurant.

Users of food delivery apps pay around one 51.6% more than if purchased directly from a McDonald’s restaurant. GrubHub has a percentage markup of 49.7% and DoorDash 49.8%.

The extra pay percentage may be even higher at local independent restaurants than at McDonald’s. Self explains that this fast food chain can keep its profit margin lower than smaller companies.

The order placed by Self in the different applications were exactly the same. They included a Quarter Pounder Burger, a 12 Piece McNugget Meal, a Regular Coke and a side of regular fries.

Seattle charges residents more for fast food, sample average cost of food via delivery apps was $53.35 dollars, one 65% more than in the restaurant where it can be purchased for $23.57 dollars.

Virginia Beach has the highest profit margin percentage in the 65% when comparing the price of buying directly from the restaurant to the full charges of food delivery service apps. The cost of the food in the restaurant was $12.75 and $35.35 at the delivery service.

“The cheapest option for food delivery is to pick it up yourself,” Self says. For those who use an application, it is likely to be the one with the best discount code at the time of ordering.
