As I prepare to travel to the Dominican Republic, where I will be at the end of this week moderating the first “Ibero-American Congress against Burnout: Take a break”, led by my dear María Méndez through the VIAHR Foundation, I want to share the following reflection with you.
One of the main topics that will be discussed in this event has to do with the importance of enjoying and resting, without this being seen as a waste of time or showing that we are lazy.
The fact of enjoying is not an option, but an essential necessity to develop our creativity and be more productive in all areas of our lives. How many times have we lost ourselves in the whirlwind of our responsibilities without even allowing ourselves a moment of pause and delight? It is time to question ourselves and reflect on the importance of incorporating enjoyment into our routine.
The pause is necessary to be able to move on. A sample of this was the confession of a singer-songwriter as successful as Alejandro Sanz, who recently admitted not feeling well in the middle of a concert tour that can be exhausting.
So why do we keep putting enjoyment aside in our daily lives? Why do we refuse to give importance to those moments that fill us with joy and make us feel alive? It is time to become aware that enjoyment is not a luxury, but a basic need to reach our full potential.
Allow yourself to enjoy the little things, a walk through nature, a pleasant conversation with a loved one, reading a good book or an afternoon laughing with friends. Don’t wait for free time, make enjoyment a priority in your lives! Remember that rest and enjoyment are the fuel for our creativity and productivity. Also, don’t forget that it is at leisure that the true creative intensity occurs.
