Thalía has been honest with her fans and followers by revealing, through her official TikTok account, the disease that was diagnosed: dysgeusia. In the clip, which went viral in a few hours, the “Who Cares” singer confessed her concern about this condition that is mainly characterized by causing a taste of salt and metal in the mouth.
I’m traumatized, they just told me that I have dysgeusia, what? It is an alteration of taste with a constant taste of salt, of metal, 24/7 and I can’t stop feeling it.”
After the revelation, the Mexican also commented, in the same video, that she has begun to “take” various elements to counteract the disease such as water with lemon, things with vinegar, eating foods with a lot of salt, among others.
Despite the above, and according to the artist herself, she has a sense of smell in “perfect condition” and can eat on a daily basis. However, her condition becomes present when she stops eating.
As Thalía mentions, and according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, dysgeusia is a disorder in which a bad taste in the mouth remains constantly. This can be rancid, salty or metallic depending on the patient. In addition to the above, dysgeusia is also characterized by a sensation of pain as well as burning in the mouth.
Although its origin is not known exactly, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research itself points out that dysgeusia could be caused by an injury or illness such as a respiratory tract infection, radiotherapy for cancers, exposure to chemicals, head injury, surgery on the ear, nose or throat or even poor oral hygiene.
Regarding treatment, it will depend on what is causing the dysgeusia. Some people usually recover their sense of taste spontaneously and without any treatment.
What will Thalía do after the revelation of her illness?
During the same video, Thalía also confessed that she was diagnosed with dysgeusia at the end of last year, but decided to remain silent because she thought the disease would end soon.
Although the Mexican did not reveal if she has seen a specialist after the revelation of her illness, she did point out that the dysgeusia could last “months or years.” Finally, and after her last confession, where she seemed worried and distressed, the singer called on her followers who have also suffered from this disease in order to learn more about her.
