A 20-year-old woman fought against a stranger who beat her and tried to take off her clothes and rape her early in the morning in a New York City Subway station in Queens.

The terrifying incident occurred at 12:10 a.m. Saturday inside the 169th St. station on the F line in the Jamaica neighborhood. In addition to the woman’s resistance, a security guard also intervened, scaring away the aggressor, who is still being searched, he said. DailyNews.

The attack happened when the woman got off the train and was followed to the mezzanine, where the suspect repeatedly punched her in the face and knocked her to the floor. As he tried to rip her clothes off she fought back and screamed, drawing the attention of the security guard who ran to help.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for his injuries. Police released surveillance images of the suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying and locating him. According to authorities, in 2024 crimes on the NYC Subway have increased 22.6% compared to the same period last year. The majority have been major thefts, but three passengers have also been shot to death and several more have been injured with firearms, knives and/or blows.

Since the beginning of 2024, NYPD officers have made 40% more arrests than this time last year, with a 64% increase in grand theft arrests.

Since taking office in January 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, former NYPD, announced several times that the number of NYPD officers in the subway system would be doubled in a beefed-up security plan to address violence in the chaotic NYC Subway. But the violence has continued. Now the NYPD announced that it is adding more than 1,000 officers to patrol the Metro each day to try to combat the crime surge.
