Washington – The mayor of the American city of Baltimore, Brandon Scott, said this Thursday that he remains hopeful of finding the bodies of the other four deceased who remain under the rubble of the bridge that collapsed due to the collision of a container ship.

After finding the remains of two of the six fatalities, the authorities suspended the search tasks on Wednesday until further notice, given that the bad weather these days and the high amount of debris put the lives of the rescue divers at risk.

In a press conference, the mayor said he hopes to be able to “recover those who remain missing and bring them home to their families” and announced that he has ordered the city council to work with Maryland state authorities “in each and every effort.” that must be carried out.”

The events occurred early Tuesday morning, when the container ship Dali suffered a power failure after leaving the port of Baltimore, one of the most important in the United States, and collided with the giant Francis Scott Key bridge, causing it to collapse.

The authorities were warned of the collision a few minutes before and cut off traffic, but eight construction workers who were filling potholes on the bridge, all of them Latin Americans, fell when the infrastructure collapsed.

Two of them were rescued alive and two bodies were recovered inside a van under water, but the other four remain under the rubble.

At the press conference, Maryland Governor Wes Moore said that visibility in the area is very poor due to the large amount of debris, so divers work practically blind.

Authorities continue to evaluate the debris before beginning work to remove the remains of the bridge, which are blocking access to the port of Baltimore, one of the country’s economic engines.
