Danyale Harris, 42, faces a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole plus five years after a tragic incident that took place in Georgia. Harris, motivated by anger after discovering a video showing a man sexually abusing her 12-year-old daughter, decided to seek revenge by leading a group of people to confront the suspect in her apartment.

The man, identified as Antonio Harley, faces charges of statutory rape, child abuse and sexual exploitation of children in connection with the incident, District Attorney Sherry Boston said in a Friday news release.

According to authorities, Harris reported the video to the DeKalb County Police Department on April 1, 2020, one day after discovering it. Despite officers asking him not to attempt revenge, Harris led several people to Harley’s apartment armed with firearms.

Upon arriving at the apartment complex, Harris had her daughter point out Harley’s apartment. When the latter did not open the door, Harris and his group chased Harley, who managed to run into the apartment through the back door.

They opened fire

At that moment, someone from Harris’ group opened fire, hitting Harley in the chest. In response, Harley’s brother, attempting to protect his five younger brothers present in the apartment, returned fire, resulting in the death of John Newkirk, 19, one of the men in Harris’ group.

Harley survived the shooting and now faces serious charges related to child abuse. Two other people were also charged in connection with the shooting and are awaiting trial.

At Harris’ trial, a DeKalb County jury found her guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

A judge sentenced her to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus five years.

The tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers of revenge-driven violence and the importance of letting authorities handle justice.
