A restaurant in Los Angeles is trading some of its non-spicy menu items for unopened bottles of Sriracha sauce.

Due to a lack of one of the ingredients needed to make the sauces, an advertisement from Huy Fong Foods was leaked in early June warning its distributor customers of a shortage of its popular Sriracha sauce. So it could be difficult for restaurants and other buyers to find this product.

Bé Ù kitchen shared through its Instagram account that it will give banh mi, popcorn chicken, or an order of summer rolls free in exchange for a bottle of Sriracha sauce from 28 oz. For those who bring a bottle of 12 ounces offer half off food.

The restaurant indicates that it uses around 257 bottles a year, so even a small bottle helps . “Of all the supply chain problems in the world, this one feels personal”, can be read in the publication.

Some customers were accepting the offer and there were also those who wrote in the announcement of the Instagram post to help the restaurant by locating some stores where they had seen bottles of Sriracha from 17 ounces for sale, such as Target in Glendale or Los Feliz in Albertson.

Huy Fong Foods points out that the shortage of chiles, an essential product to make your sauce, is out of your control. Without chili peppers, the company cannot make Sriracha as well as other products, including Chili Garlic and Sambal Oelek.

The manufacturer of Sriracha indicates that the quality of the peppers has been affected due to to severe weather conditions. The sauce company reminds distributors that in 2000 an inventory shortage of chillies had already been experienced.

In the letter to his customers, Huy Fong said that all orders shipped after 18 April 2022 would be scheduled after Labor Day (September 6, 2022). He also indicated that there would be no new orders before September as they do not have enough inventory to fulfill those orders.
