The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office requested this Tuesday 36 months of preventive detention against the already imprisoned former president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022) for crimes of criminal organization, collusion and influence peddling.

“(The) Second Transitory Supreme Prosecutor Specialized in Crimes Committed by Public Officials requested preventive detention against former president Pedro Castillo Terrones and former ministers Juan Silva Villegas and Geiner Alvarado López,” the Public Ministry announced on its Twitter account.

He explained that this requirement of preventive detention for 36 months corresponds “to the criminal process for the crimes of criminal organization, collusion and influence peddling.”

In addition, the Public Ministry requested preventive detention against the former Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva Villegas, as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of criminal organization and simple collusion, and against the former Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, Geiner Alvarado, as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of criminal organization.

Castillo has been in prison since December 7, 2022, when he was arrested for carrying out a failed self-coup and after the Justice issued 18 months of preventive detention against the former president on December 16 while he is investigated for the crimes of rebellion. and conspiracy.

Alleged fraudulent tenders

Now, the Prosecutor’s Office has requested 36 months of preventive, but this time for allegedly leading an organization during his Government dedicated to obtaining money in exchange for fraudulent public works tenders.

This investigation by the Public Ministry became official after Congress approved on February 17 the final report of a constitutional complaint against the former president, a necessary previous step.

The former president no longer has the immunity he had when dealing with a case during his term as president.

The complaint filed by the National Prosecutor’s Office (general) against the ex-president approved by the Legislature recommends accusing Castillo for the alleged commission of crimes against public peace, in the form of criminal organization aggravated by his alleged status as leader, and against the public administration, in the modality of aggravated influence peddling, as well as an alleged accomplice of the crime against the public administration in the collusion modality.

The file responds to alleged irregularities found in the works of the Tarata II Bridge, in the northern department of San Martín, and in other alleged cases of corruption related to the public company Petroperú and the Ministry of Housing.
