A recent poll has revealed a sharp decline in President Joe Biden’s level of support among Arab-American voters. According to the survey results, only 17.4% of respondents would support Biden in the presidential election if it were held today.

The poll, commissioned by the Arab American Institute and conducted by John Zogby Strategies, instead reveals the popularity of former President Donald Trump among Arab-Americans. In contrast to Biden’s 17.4%, 40% responded that they would vote for Trump, according to the New York Post.

In third place, which is beginning to be a trend in various national surveys, appears Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 13.7%. 3.8% said they would support far-left candidate Cornel West and 25.1% said they are not sure who they would support in the presidential election.

This dramatic change of heart is largely attributed to Biden’s support for Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. In October 2020, Biden was leading in the preferences of Arab-American voters, with 59% support compared to 35% for Trump.

Additionally, the survey reveals a change in the political affiliation of this group of voters. 32% identified as Republican, 31% as independent and just 23% as Democrat, marking the first time in 26 years of polling Arab-American voters that the Institute does not favor the Democratic Party, according to the New York Post.

Biden management

Attitude toward President Biden has also changed significantly, with 66% of respondents expressing a negative opinion, in contrast to 74% who had a positive opinion in October 2020.

Additionally, 77% of Arab-American voters rated Biden’s job performance as “fair” or “poor,” while only 20% rated it as “excellent” or “good.”

The survey also investigated the perception of Biden’s management in the war between Israel and Hamas, where 67% of respondents expressed disapproval. 68% were against sending military aid to Israel, advocating instead a ceasefire.

However, various White House officials have already said that a ceasefire is not likely.

“We believe that a ceasefire at this time benefits Hamas, and Hamas is the only one that would benefit from it at this time,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Monday, according to the New York Post.

“What we have said needs to be considered and explored are localized temporary humanitarian pauses to allow aid to reach specific populations and perhaps even to assist with the evacuation of people who want to leave, move further south,” the spokesperson added. .

The poll surveyed 500 Arab-Americans between Oct. 23 and Oct. 27 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
