Nichelle Nichols, the actress who played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the original series ‘Star Trek’ (1966) passed away on 30 from July at 89 years old.

The artist’s son, Kyle Johnson, confirmed the news on Nichelle Nichols’ Facebook account , sharing that the death was due to natural causes.

“Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, passed away due to natural causes. However, the light from her, like the ancient galaxies now seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to learn, enjoy and draw inspiration from. Hers was a life well lived and as such a model for all of us”, commented Johnson.
